Mortality (from cardiovascular disease) - Exercise Exercise reduces mortality. There is no "threshold" level at which the benefits from physical exercise in terms of reduced mortality become apparent. Any exercise is better than no exercise, and more exercise is better than a little exercise. Moderate improvements in fitness -- particularly among those who are least fit, bring substantial reductions in mortality. In order to achieve "moderate improvements," exercise two to three times a week for 20 to 30 minutes at a level where sweating and shortness of breath occur.
