Otitis Media - Antibiotic treatment Antibiotic treatment evidence is lacking: 80% will resolve without antibiotics. Dutch protocol - children ages two and above are treated with pain relieving medications and observation for a period of three days. If no improvement antimicrobials may be given or observation is continued. Same treatment for children under age two with the exception of a mandatory contact with patient by either a visit or telephone after 24 hours.
