Women who ate fish two to four times per week had a 27% decrease in total and a 37% decrease in ischemic stroke, while those who ate fish 5+ times per week had a 52% decrease in total stroke and a 62% decrease in ischemic stroke. Omega-3 fatty acid intake, 87% of which was from seafood/fish sources, women in the highest quintile had a significant 28% decrease in total stroke, with nonsignificant reductions in risk of ischemic stroke (29%), and thrombotic stroke (33%).
